Boiler drain valves, also known as drain cocks, are designed for use with boilers, water heaters and storage tanks to drain water from a plumbing or heating system. Raptor Supplies offer a wide range of these drain valves from brands like Watts, Proline and Webstone. These valves feature a full-flow design with a maximum pressure rating of 125 psi WOG. Boiler drain valves from Watts are ideal for use in hydronic heating systems and feature brass construction with 3/4 inch hose thread connection on the outlet. They are further equipped with an adjustable Teflon stem packing for providing positive shut-off and an aluminium quarter-turn tee handle for manual control. A boiler drain valve releases water and sediments accumulated in the bottom of a steam boiler while the boiler blowdown valve, on the other hand, releases water containing high levels of dissolved solids.
Boiler drain valves can be fitted with a backflow prevention device to prevent water from flowing back into the boiler.
If your boiler is located in an unheated space or in an area where the temperature can drop below freezing, the water in the drain valve can freeze. To prevent this, make sure that your boiler is insulated and that the drain valve is located in a location that is protected from the cold.
